A San Marino Blue 2025 BMW M5 Sedan came to Ixexotics in Cypress, TX carrying something a car like this shouldn’t have to live with: aging paint protection film that had reached the end of its service life, plus a front end that had already collected damage along the way. The owner’s brief was essentially a reset — strip the old film, correct and seal the paint, then rebuild the car’s protection properly, this time in clear film across every painted surface.
That made this one of the more involved builds we take on: removal of the existing film, the 5 Year Gold ceramic coating package, a full vehicle clear XPEL Ultimate paint protection film installation, Exoshield windshield protection, and — because the car arrived with prior damage rather than fresh from delivery — paint repairs and the bodywork labor to support them. When a vehicle shows up with old film and old damage, the order of operations matters as much as the materials.
Nothing new goes on until everything old comes off. The existing paint protection film was removed first — a step billed by the hour because it cannot be rushed on a high-value car. Aged film must be pulled cleanly and completely, panel by panel, without disturbing the factory finish beneath it, leaving a smooth, uncontaminated substrate for the correction and coating that follow. Any adhesive residue, lifted edges, or trapped debris has to go with it.
Only once the car was stripped bare could the paint itself be properly assessed — which is exactly when the existing damage on the front bumper and carbon rocker panels became part of the plan.
This M5 arrived with more than worn film. Our team performed minor spot repairs on paint damage to the carbon rocker panels and on the front bumper, where damage had been left behind by a previous front lip installation. These are targeted repairs, done to make the affected areas right rather than repaint whole panels — and notably, they are not reported to any vehicle service history report.
To support the repair and the fitment of a customer-supplied replacement front lip, shop labor covered the removal and reinstallation of the front bumper. That’s the unglamorous half of a job like this: parts off, work done correctly, everything refitted so the panels align and the film can go on over a sound surface instead of a compromised one.
With the film gone and the repairs complete, the paint moved into the 5 Year Gold Package — our two-step ceramic coating process, and it starts where every good coating does: with the surface. A full paint correction and paint enhancement pass, typically eight to ten hours, systematically removes the swirls, scratches, and hazing that accumulate from years of driving, handling, and washing. On a car that had been wearing film for years, that correction also unifies the finish so the panels read consistently across the whole body.
With the paint leveled and dead-clean, our team hand-applied our ceramic coating panel by panel. Each coated surface was then cured under an infrared heat lamp, which accelerates the bonding process and drives the coating into the paint more quickly and evenly. The result is a harder, more durable finish with improved chemical resistance and water-repellency.
For the owner, that translates into years of easier maintenance: contaminants struggle to bond, water beads and sheets off, and the wash process gets noticeably simpler. The package is engineered for 4–5 years or more of protection and includes a check-up two weeks after delivery to confirm the coating has settled in exactly as it should.
The centerpiece of the build was our most complete coverage option: the Full Vehicle Paint Protection Film Package in clear, applied with XPEL Ultimate and backed by XPEL’s 10-year manufacturer warranty. On this M5, the installation was carried out to our modified standard rather than the basic layout — and that distinction is the whole point.
Coverage runs through the entire painted inventory of the car: full front bumper, full hood with wrapped edges, full front fenders, mirror caps, headlights, driver and passenger rocker panels, A-pillars, roof, doors, rear quarter panels, trunk, and rear bumper. Not a front-end wrap with a few add-ons — the roof and the rear are film too, on a car whose flat surfaces and long flanks catch every rock the highway throws.
The modified installation means patterns were customized for extended and wrapped edges, with relief cuts and seams removed wherever applicable for more complete, seamless coverage. Basic trim removal — handles, flares, trim, and emblems — allowed the film to tuck behind components rather than being trimmed around them. On a build of this scope, expect a five-to-six-day turnaround; this installation carried an estimated 120 hours of panel work. As with any professional PPF installation, small exposed areas can remain on high-tension surfaces where relief cuts or seams are necessary for long-term durability — standard practice, not a compromise. The package also includes a complimentary warranty wash and check two weeks after delivery.
The glass got its own layer of protection: Exoshield GT3 windshield protection, installed directly on the windshield. Where paint protection film handles stone chips on the body, Exoshield handles the same threat on the windshield — the surface that takes the brunt of road debris at speed, and the one where a single impact means a full glass replacement and, on a modern car, recalibration of the driver-assist systems behind it. The installation includes a 3-year manufacturer warranty against film degradation, hazing, delamination, or other defects in the film; it does not warranty potential breakage.
Every PPF or ceramic coating package at Ixexotics includes our signature delivery detail — a $150 value — so the car goes home finished rather than merely protected. It covers a foam pre-soak and full exterior hand wash, door, hood, and trunk jambs cleaned, exterior and interior glass, wheels cleaned and tires dressed, and an interior pass: carpets vacuumed, trim cleaned, and seats cleaned and conditioned.
The completed M5 is a car that’s been through the full cycle: old film removed, existing damage addressed, the front bumper off and back on for a proper replacement lip, paint corrected and sealed under ceramic coating, and clear XPEL Ultimate film covering every painted surface from bumper to bumper — with Exoshield shielding the windshield and a freshly detailed cabin and exterior at delivery. The blue paint reads deep and uniform, the film disappears into the finish on the wrapped edges, and the car now wears protection that’s better than what it had when it arrived.
Ixexotics serves vehicle owners throughout Cypress, Katy, Tomball, Fulshear, Houston, Spring, and The Woodlands. Projects like this M5 are what our facility is built around: removing old film correctly, preparing and repairing the surfaces beneath it, and installing current-generation protection — XPEL Ultimate, Exoshield GT3, and ceramic coatings — with the attention high-value paint demands.
